Itsutus-no-Kata
The “Itsutsu-no-kata” (Forms of “Five”), one of the sets of kata in Kodokan Judo, was formalised by Kanō Jigorō in 1887. The kata is a refined expression of the principles of attack and defence. Consisting of five techniques, it is collectively called “Itsutsu-no-kata”, but each individual technique does not have a name. This kata was designed to artistically represent the laws of universe and nature.
